I just had a .308 Enfield Ishapore barrel installed on my large frame Martini and had the rim recess cut for .307 Winchester. The dual extractors work like a charm in this setup. I'm using the original Enfield sights. The Enfield fore-end screw hanger is a barrel band with a threaded nut forward of the rear sight, a little long for a short sporter fore-end. I'd like to hear recommendations for a safe way to attach the fore end. The barrel is too thin in my opinion to risk drilling it for a threaded hole or for a dovetail for a hanger.

Of course I thought of a barrel band but I'd prefer not to do that. I might be able to make a barrel band that doesn't completely encircle the barrel and hide it in the fore end wood.

Hi --I have done a few by using a pc of 1/4" X 1/2" wide flatbar
Cut to 3/4" long and contour the bottom to fit the barrel
Soldier using a lead free soldier
Drill and tap for a 10-32 machine screw
This give lots of thread and you did not drill into the barrel
Never had any problems using this method

You've given me a good idea. I'll just cut off the existing barrel band and take out enough of the top that I can wrap it around the underside of the barrel under the sight base. There's a ledge on the sight base that will make a nice stop. Then I'll solder it to the barrel. Thanks everyone.
