Sorry about this off topic question. However, it seems I remember a discussion on this board a few years ago about pocket watches. Does anyone know of a board similar to this but that specializes in watches. I have a beautifully engraved, solid gold cased, key-winder, American Watch Co pocket watch that I inherited many years ago. I'd like to sell it but I haven't a clue as to what it might be worth (hence my original question about a similar board to this that specializes in watches). Again, sorry about the off topic question. Steve

Rockdoc, do a Google search for "pocket watch specialists" you'll get:
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,030,000 for pocket watch specialists. (0.12 seconds)
I am sure someone amongst them will be able to help. JMTC.

Rockdoc: Take it to an older jeweler. A good many of them worked on and fell in love with the older watches.Yours is a nineteenth century or older version and if you hit the right one,you will be told more than you want to know about your watch. Best Regards Gene

http://www.oldwatch.com/identify/identify.htmlhttp://nawcc-mb.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/4316035461Might help. It would be nice to see a photo of it and the back as watches with higher jewel count usually bring higher $. If you sell this hopefully it is to enhance the double collection? Duke

Rockdoc, Go to http://www.oldwatch.com. They will probably have something listed close to what you have which is an early Waltham pocket watch. You can go into their webb site and date your watch via the serial number. THey also have a 800 number listed. Give them a call and they may be helpful. It can be very difficult to find someone to work on your watch, so I hope it is running. Regards, Max

Got into buying, not really collecting pocket watches a few years ago for a short while. Yes, there is a massive "blue book" equivalent for pocket and wrist watches out. Bottom line: unless you have a very unusual movement with many complications, few or none of which were ever Made in the USA, you have something that is about worth the gold in the case (hopefully 18K!). Better are railroad watches like the Illinois Bunn Special that actually keep brilliant time. IN any case, the NAWCC (National Assn. of Watch and Clock Collectors) with website above is the serious organization in the field. Luck, but don't hold your breath...

Tim is right. In all likelyhood, most of the value is in the solid gold case. It's a little like asking about the value of a fox double ... depends ... condition, specific model, gold filled or solid gold, etc.
I have traded with bbman3, and he knows watches. If he's not buying, email me a pic of the mvt and case markings and I will make you a decent offer. Always nice to walk around with an offer in your pocket.

Then call me, I been lookin at them & I know I can trust you. Merry Christmas to you, and all that read this. For those of you who saw me crash and burn on this site, I am 9 months 12 days sober. Thank GOD for you all, especially Bob Blair.
