Don't know anything about that. Which pic?
As I was looking for the 'joint' spotted a small s inside a sheild next to the lower rib about 1 1/2" inch in front of the right flat.

My crude measurements measure chamber at 2 9/16" and a one inch cone. Sound correct?

If the enlongated shield w/ a crowned "S" or it looks to be a crowned "S" in a lozenge, I think that to be the mark of the Schilling forge. If you get a good pic of it, I'd like to see the image. That's the area where you generally find other initials.

Yes, I don't see any indication that the chambers are any longer than 65mm and generally the forcing cones were long. So it you find an example that is 70mm and shorter forcing cone, then it has ben altered. The left tube is choked and the right tube has/had less than 0.2mm of constriction. It is a roundtop version with the caveman tradmark stamped atop the top rib just ahead of the Greener crossbolt.

Thanks ellenbr, the crown above the S on the left barrel in front of the flat may have a little more space than the same on the flat. The S in a shield on the right barrel 1 1/2" in front of the flat is not crowned.

Here's a better pic of the receiver top shape.

I've correctly rephrased the post about. Have a gander at the image of the flats(left tube with double lozenge stamp) of this Jakob in the 3rd row, 1st column and compare it here: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...requestid=17690

Well, it's not the mark to which I was referring. I think it to be that of a forge or tubemaker. Anschultz has the mark of a shield with his initials and I've seen the "S" in a shield on German target arms; therefore, similar to guilty by association, I guess it to be on of the tube makers of Zella-Mehlis. Is there a Krupp stamp, or any other metal type stamp, anywhere on the tubes(around the breech end)?? Much better pic by the way.

Yes, about 2 1/2" forward of the breech on both barrels, it says "fluid steel-krupp essen".

To answer more clearly one of your earlier questions, the German eagles on the barrels are more closely knit than the ones on the flats or maybe you see that in the recent pics.

My Sauer und Sohn Suhl made 16/65 side by side is proof dated 2/29 (February 1929) and the serial number is 296XXX. The mark 6/31 is surely your proof date. To highlight such marks on blued barrels for photos, I use white chalk but crayon will also do.

The reason there's a W (Würgebohrung)only on the LH barrel is that it is the more heavily choked. The U (Untersuchung) is an inspection mark after proof firing. The S stands for shotgun (Schrotlauf) supplimentary proof. These marks with their Imperial Crowns and Eagles were only used by proof-houses in Germany between 1891 and 1939. Similarly the 16 in a circle, the nominal gauge. The 16 not in a circle is the actual bore diameter 22cm in front of the standing breech (according to the English proof system).

The word Nitro, however, was only used for shot barrels proofed at Suhl after 1912. So it could not have been made earlier than 1912 nor later than 1939.

SuS and the caveman are both Sauer und Sohn trademarks. Beware that, there is no "70" on the barrel flats and, unless it is instead stamped on the ejector, the shotgun will most likely have shorter (2,1/2"/65mm) chambers not suitable for 2,3/4" /70mm shells.

Thank you Kiwi, ellenbr stated he believes mine is a model 180E. Is yours that model?

Seems odd, your 1929 having a higher ser. no. than mine,261xxx.
