Could one or more of the forum members please post a picture or two of stocks with "feather crotch" walnut and identify where on the stock the "feather crotch" appears.

Thank you
Lou

Shouldn't the feather crotch flow towards the butt plate on that 21 ?
The way it looks the grain is going to cross the wrist at an angle.

God eye jOe. I have seen more than one Model 21 with a cracked stock at the wrist. The wood is beautiful but sometimes not sound.

Lou here's a picture of an feather crotch English walnut blank that I have. It's very nicely balanced from side to side and is quarter sawn.

jOe, the Win 21 stock is sawn the same way from what I can see. Don't be confused by the fiddle-back in the wrist area. The flow looks, to me anyway, to be very straight through the wrist area. This stock should last forever unless someone runs over it with a truck.

These photos are grainy. Have to redo them. This stock is waiting for fitting and final shaping. Think of feathering as an over lay on top of the grain. The blank is from a larger slab of Illinois black walnut.

This blank has only a hint of feathering. This slab is from California, it is english walnut.
