Was asked this question at work, and stood there, my mouth agape, with an even more stupid than usual expression on my face. Can a 30-30 Marlin be converted somewhat easily (read that "cost effectively") to .35 Remington? What parts are required, if it is possible? Barrel, for sure, extractor or ejection parts?

I can't for the life of me understand why someone would want to do this but all that's required is a barrel change. It would be less expensive to find one in another caliber if that's what's needed. The 336s were offered in both calibers for many years and are a mainstay for deer hunting in the upper Mid West.

The 336 was made in .35 Rem. Wouldn't the simplest answer be to buy one, selling or trading the 30-30 if neccessary.

Marlin still catalogs the 336C in .35 Rem.. The newer Marlins all have Micro Groove rifling, if you want to use cast bullets better to find an older one with standard rifling.
There are now guys doing .356 and .358 conversions on these but there's always discussion if it's a safe conversion.

It can be done by replacing the original 30/30 barrel with one in .35 caliber; and also, since the 35 Rem case head is smaller than the 30/30, one would be required to replace the bolt. All other parts are the same; but given the fact that 336 Marlins in 35 Rem are common as dirt, such a conversion would make no sense from a economic standpoint. But if this guy insists on the conversion, have him send the gun back to Marlin; Marlin performs these kinds of modifications on a regular basis.

I was thinking the bolt whould have to be different, but, when I got home from work, I didn't have a round of .35 Remington handy to mike. I believe you are correct.

Jim Jim, anything can be had for the right price! Wild West Conversions Actually they list a straight forward Marlin T/D conversion for $550.00.
