Do any of you have access to photos or catalogue pages for the graded Baker guns?

I have a graded gun that by description appears to be a "S" from the engraving but there is a "R" on the barrel flats following the serial number. It was sold as a "R".

I am also curious about the "H" stamped on the barrel hook. I can find reference to it's exsistance but no meaning is attached to it.

I am also interested in the woodcock that always seems to be part of the Baker engraving.

Do not remember s x s.

It is, however, a great book!

The earliest R Grades were engraved with that bit of scroll like you usually see on the S Grades. About when the S Grade came out, ca. 1908, the R Grade engraving changed to a single dog looking up at a single bird on each side. If yours is marked R, it's an R. The R Grades came with Damascus or Krupp barrels, while the S came with Flui-Tempered [fluid] steel barrels.

I was hoping you would have an answer. This must be an eary R as it has the scroll.

Any opinion on the woodcock- this gun has a single on the bottom of the receiver. I seem to remember a comment in an article on the woodcock on Baker Guns.

Thanks for the link- I had been guided to your pages by another in the group. Great information. Pictures were very helpful.

Thiis were the mention of the letter H on the barrel hook was made.

Baker seems to be more of a research project than Fox.

Al: none of that is original work on my part, most everything coming from Robert Chambers, Daryl Hallquist, Ross Berck, Dave Noreen, and Greg Martin Auctions. John Houchins was working on a Baker book prior to his death, and I believe that effort continues.
And BTW: I sorta have my plate full with DamascusKnowledge.com, the LCSCA site, Guatemala, and a new ministry on the Gila River Indian Community south of Phoenix SO if someone else would like to acquire the job (and the PictureTrail album) of Worthy Internet Collector of All Things Baker, that would be great!
