Geno, that's a neat gun. Can you say how much of the work was not done in Germany ? I really like the engraving style.

Daryl, I believe all metal work made during war time period, but wood work following the quality in Eastern Zone when the war was over.

Thanks for sharing this, Geno.
I enjoy your interesting contributions to this board.
I find the 70MM chamber length interesting but what I find the most interesting is the 1045 proofing date. I thought that German arms factories right after the end of World War 2 were out of production. I have read that certain Walther P-38 pistols were assembled for the French immediately post WW2, but I did not know that Sauer shotguns were being assembled and PROOFED in the autumn of 1945, after the German surrender. That some Sauer (et al) shotguns were "assembled" right after the war is not surprising, but that there was a formal proofing organization is surprising to me.
Who would have been paying the workers and under what authority, I wonder?

Neat gun, Geno. A modern engraver working for Sauer Eckenforde can tell you who engraved it.

According to one of Cate's Sauer pistol books, Walther was allowed to resume production almost immediately after liberation by the American commander. The reason? To supply souvenir pistols for the GIs.

Ian, factories in Suhl began to work in couple of months after war was over and under Russian army authorities. I saw one document, where one Russian cheif general gave order to increase production of Merkel O/U's from 20 to 100 (or 200?) pcs in 1946.
It was one of conditions of German capitulation, gun factories produce guns for Russia to compensate Russian losses.

The sleek frame on that German really sets it off especially when all of the various pieces are assembled and then it drips quality!!!
I like that frame even more than the Fox frame.
I wonder how well it balances and how well it handles out in the field?
