Looking for information on FEG SxS shotguns. Your personal experience of them, models, technical specs, dates of manufacture, serial number runs, etc. They are/were manufactured in Hungary. Thanks Island Guy

When I was in Bosnia in 1999, I was hunting with some Croats . They had a multitude of guns, O/U and SxS. I saw, handled and photographed several but not on digits. The FEG SxS doubles I saw and handled were probaly 30-40 years old but appeared to be robust, serviceable and stout. If my memory serves me, they were not overly heavy, had pistol grips, splinter forends, double triggers, reinforced frames , extarctors. That brand appeared to be very popular. Considering that they were in in the COMBLOC for years, it olny mdae sense that these Hungarian guns ouwld be readily availbale in Bosnia.
I hunted quail with a Simpson 12 ga O/U there and it was your typical entry level O/U but performed well.

I had one back in the late 70's or early 80's. A few of them were imported to the States. OK guns for the money back then. The one I had was your basic boxlock extractor gun with double triggers.

I have a FEG pistol. FEG made military arms for the Soviet Union in addition to civilian models. I love my pistol. Its basically a Walther copy. Finish outside and inside is very well done. I have not handled their long guns, but if the quality is anywhere near the pistols they made I would buy one.

Thanks for the input on the FEG guns guys! I understand that the FEG pistols are highy regarded, but have not been able to find much info on FEG long arms. it appears they are now out of business. The (used) FEG shotgun that I have on order is one of a batch recently imported from Europe by Tradex, a very reputable Canadian firm. The photos and description supplied by Tradex indicate that it is an older gun, but very robust and in very good condition. Thanks again Island Guy

I see them at local gun shows all the time, at near give-away prices. They seem very well built with a large reinforce at the junction of the watertable and the standing breech, bushed firing pins, some with cocking indicators, and some with side clips. As my hobby is building double rifles on shotgun actions, I have studdied them to that end, as they seem a likely candidate. However I cannot find anyone who knows anything about the quality of steel in them and that has held me back from buying. I've seen several on the same sellers' tables for several years now. You will see the same gun sometimes under the names "Fegyar" and "Continental" as well.

I have a FEG Browning Hi-Power 9mm clone, and it is a true clone--I can interchange all the parts with my 1950s-vintage Browning. Excellent quality. I believe some of their guns were sold under the Mauser trademark by an American importer some years ago.

I've seen more CZ-Brno scatterguns than FEG and the sidelock CZ ones had coil springs. Fegyver e Gazkeszulekgyar(FEG) either went into bankruptcy or receivership and feginvest absorbed them and production was supposed to have continued - http://www.feginvest.hu/ close to FEG's address, or maybe the same. I've seen posts where an inquiry to feginvest@feginvest.hu produced some info( http://translate.google.com/translate?hl...l%3Den%26sa%3DG ). There is/was a FEGARMY intity also and from here in the US it looks like one big FEG blurr. I'd be interested to see the proofmarks. Kind Regards, Raimey rse
