I went over to look at a Buggy this morning and bought this 32" 12 bore from the chap, dint buy the buggy. Marked for Montgomery Wards, "Western Field Deluxe" on L bbls -"Automatic Ejectors" on the right. No ser#'s I could see. Tight, ejectors work....Looks like a Lefever nitro-Ithaca to me? Whatcha think???

When I first saw it I said Flues because of the frame sculpting but the triggers look more like a Nitro Special. Easy enough to find out, though. If the frame is stamped with the famous "Goose in the Grass", it's a Nitro. If a setter, it's a Flues. The serial number will give a definate identification. Warning: My usual success rate when trying to identify oldies not in hand, this will turn out to be the only NID ever made to show a transition from Flues to NID incorperating the best features of the Nitro Special and will be priceless beyond reason. Good luck.

Should make you a fine duck or target gun.The long barrels should be worth an extra hundred from normal price.Very nice fine,I know I would be happy with it.

Nice gun! I like the case colors too. Did he throw the velcro in too? That's a great idea - you can velcro little reminders on the gun, diagrams about which end points towards the bird so you don't forget, spare change, your last dollar, etc.

Up to about 1932 or 3 Ithaca's Lefever Arms Co. made guns marked for various hardware companies and mail-order houses. But after that their dealers price lists etc. carried "Not sold to mail order houses or their chain stores under their brand or ours ..."

Sure there is nor one more digit in that serial number? Nitro Special serial numbers ran from 100000 to 361199.

Aside from the stamping, the giveaway is those breech balls are way too far toward half-round for a Flues or NID either, both of which are pretty thin and flat.

So? What do you think it is? It has a push button forend, and the numbers are, I just checked again, 20563....I doubt I'll keep it, as soon as I get it pegged and make sure there are no warts on it, I'll put it on the board. Shoots pretty well, just broke some rocks with it...Looks Lefeverish to me...

It is an Ithaca Western Arms made for MW Co. It is listed as an ejector 12/32 and shipped to MW on 10/23/30. That gun was 1 of 200 shipped over about a years time to the company.

OK. The cut on the frame just fwd of the back line makes it a Flues or Nitro. The serial number makes it a Crass. Iy's not a Crass. The round balls make it a Nitro. It's time to get technical. Move the openning lever to the right and look down at the left side of the water table just fwd of the standing breech. Do you see a small pin sticking up? If so, it's a Nitro. If not, someone put in a call for Walt Synder. Man! I sure miss that rascal Rupple! By now he'd have had three more just like it and identified the thumb print of the origional owner!
