Tenite stocked guns were available at least as early as 1940. They show up in the Shooter's Bible from that year.

Springfield was just another of Stevens' many aliases.

Thanks guys! I think its pretty well pegged as a pre WWII gun. I have never paid much attention to Stevens doubles, but I have to say this one is pretty nice. Very good wood, dual Ivory beads, tight as a full tick. We ran about 200+ loads through it today and patterned it as well. Pretty impressive performer. I think we will open the right barrel , and then just shoot it. First double my son ever bought....Think he is converted....

I've got three of those 5100's. The 16 says "Springfield", the 20 says "Ranger" and the .410 says "Stevens". All have twin ivory beads and the 16 & 20 have factory recoil pads, kinda "Hawkins" looking but not labeled. Go have fun with it; I sure have!
