I have an old hammer side by side bythis maker can anyone give me a history lesson or tell me anything about this maker ?
Gun is quite beautiful with engraving good color on metal and nice checkering on wrist and forearm with underlever that also
is covered with engraving.It also has cheek peice and double triggers and measures 16 guage.Anyhow any info would be appreciated thanks again

Johann Springer (later Johann Springer's Erben) was a famous Viennese gunmaker, one of the most respected in the times of Austria-Hungary (1918 and earlier). Still active in Vienna, mostly as gun dealer. Quite some of the old Springer doubles are found with Belgian proofs.

Johann Springer was born in Hungry in 1819, moved to Vienna (Wien) he died in 1875. Springer made guns until 1957, I have a list with a general outline of serial numbers to year made. If Springer made your gun they still have the order books and can tell you when it was made and who for. The last email I have from a published source is c.springer@magnet.at
