Johann Springer (later Johann Springer's Erben) was a famous Viennese gunmaker, one of the most respected in the times of Austria-Hungary (1918 and earlier). Still active in Vienna, mostly as gun dealer. Quite some of the old Springer doubles are found with Belgian proofs.

Johann Springer was born in Hungry in 1819, moved to Vienna (Wien) he died in 1875. Springer made guns until 1957, I have a list with a general outline of serial numbers to year made. If Springer made your gun they still have the order books and can tell you when it was made and who for. The last email I have from a published source is
Mailing address is
Christian Johann Springer
Josefsgasse 10
1080 Vienna, Austria
Fax: 43-1-4061226

My email exchange with them several years ago was at

They had a web page off and on but I have not checked it in a few years so not sure if it’s still up.

The Springer guns I have see were all first class, can you post a picture for us?

I checked, their site is being redone. Here is the contact info they have up.

They also point to an auction site. Here is the english version with some of their guns.

Nice guns, not cheap, that is for sure.
