If original, depending on the era of production 'machine bluing' was used until about 1939 followed by 'dip bluing' using Du-Lite blue.-Dick

The early ser. # guns were carbonia blued --- sometimes referef to as charcoal blued. Yes, they did and still do use charcoal in the process.

Guess you're right Mr. Don. However, I never heard it called that when I worked for the custom shop. Ken

Ken-when did you work at the Winchester Custom Shop-?? There is a good article on the M21 in a 1986 issue of Sporting Classics with fotos of some of the employees working on M21's-Was Dave Carlson in charge of that operation when you worked there? RWTF

Hey Derrick, ya, you there, did you read the rules of this board before posting???? It says in BIG BOLD LETTERS that there will be No posts about the Winchester M21 unless there is at least one picture!!! I suggest you take a minute to read those rules because I'm suggesting a total ban on people that don't read the rules!!

Derrick- rest easy. I read the rules and I found nothing about the required fotos for a M21 here- to the possible exclusion of other fine double guns. I read that only double guns; side by side and over and unders, and drillings and possibly single barrel trap guns can be sold here, but I have seen ads for Model 12's, Browning A-5's and Remington M17's and their clone, the fine Ithaca M37- so Dave Weber is gentleman enough to give some slack- I think the only way you could get in trouble here would be to mess with an Evil Black Rifle- If I had a M21, which I don't, but I would like to have one someday, and had to put up a foto of it here, I would be SOL- as I do not have a digital camera. Best of luck- and rules can often be 'bent' w/o being broken. RWTF!!
