Sliver, I agree with you that there is no "logic" in having to operate an additional
lever/button to fire a third barrel that does the same as the other two (chokes aside).

Maybe, as you say it was built on a drilling action. Otherwise an internal inspection is
in order.

Very nice gun and cool cocking indicators btw.

I have inherited a 16 bore Christoph Funk flintendrilling, all three barrels being 16 bore. Was wondering if anyone could tell me an approximate value. It is in excellent condition, choke tubes have been changed but I still have originals.

Nolan welcome to the forum! Your daddy was one of my favorite people. I've seen your tri-barrel; hang on to it forever. It was one of your grandfather's most prized possessions!...Geo

Silver,
Flintendrilling just means "Shotgun Drilling".The trigger sequence is the same as on a common drilling. What no one has considered is the use of a slug or buckshot(posten)in the bottom barrel. In this case, having to use the selector to fire the bottom barrel would be desired. This arrangement would be useful for drive hunts in the forrest. When I lived and hunted in Germany, shot was not allowed for hoofed game, but earlier it was.

Der Ami,
This is exactly what another friend from EU said and it makes most sense.

I will post some pictures as soon as I am able. The Double Gun Journl ran an article in 2008 detailing the gun and my granfather's, the late Col. Fred N. Ball, correspondence with the editor. I'm not sure if DGJ's archives are accessible online, but if they are there are several good shots of the gun there.
