It might be the only SxS M 42 ever made?

I see this type of offering all the time. Seller thinks he has THE BEST of whatever ever made. Gets $$ in his brain and sets HIGH price. Is the M42 all factory original? Since M42's are not my specialty, don't know about the engraver but I don't think thier are records for M42's as for M21's. Then one needs expert appraisels. If not factory original, then its worth nothing as a high grade collectable. If factory, the price will be determined when cold hard cash changes hands but NOT from my hands.-Dick

Well, it isn't a M-42. It looks to be a middlin' original quality Webley & Scott based SLE. Valuation would require maker's name and current condition level.
Me thinks I detect the maloder of rodent.

"I am listing this gun for a friend of mine who has a small gun shop " Hmmm the guy who owns the gun is a dealer but "Blue Sky",who so not a dealer is selling the gun.Not sure if thats even a legal transaction as he may be brokering a gun without a license
"Payment by eletronic transfer only, no exceptions"
That sure gives the feeling of trust.

Who the hell is J. Severino? Or did he mean Jasper Salerno? Saw a Browning Super advertized once as "factory original engraving" done by "The Master's" sister, "R. Bee." Website posting dialog degenerated into somebody interpreting the blurry signature on the engraving as "B. Bee" istead of R. Bee and launching into an acrimonious diatribe on trumped-up (read "upgraded") guns. Must have been their crazy cousin, Bumble Bee. The M42 picutered must definitely be a "rare and important firearm", as the auction house lingo goes. Love the rarified atmosphere of conjectural superguns! KBM

there's something wrong with the posting on gunbroker. when i first clicked on it, there was a sxs in the pic. after logging in so i could view the larger image it changed to a model 42 in a case. looks to me like one of winchester recent m42 reproduction high grades in a very late winchester case.

The GA gun looks model42ish to me, also skeetish, brokedownish and pattern#5ish although I can't really see it that well.

Buyers should patiently take a break from looking for Model 42s on the internet. A real skeet grade is outnumbered ten to one by faked up guns. "Original" vent rib guns are nonexistent in internet sales although there are many that are described that way. Reserve and asking prices are in multiples of what original high condition graded and ribbed guns should go for but, even worse, the guns with these high asking prices are not originals. Refinished field grades with $250 worth of engraving are being hawked in five figures. Nine out of ten engraved 42s being offered are very badly done. They would be worth more in original field grade unengraved configuration. Let's take a break and let things settle down.
