Office of Strategic Services ended in 1945 - later morphed into the CIA and US Army Special Forces.

Ed, none of that is stupid. It is humor. And recalling all of that is interesting. There is a book on OSS evaluation of their candidates in WWII called, Assessment of Men. https://www.amazon.com/Assessment-Men-Selection-Personnel-Strategic/dp/0977615529/ref=sr_1_2?qid=1701570864&refinements=p_27%3AOSS+Assessment+Staff&s=books&sr=1-2
It is an early and excellent read on the evaluation process for stressful action positions that later became standard for the US Military and Intelligence Agencies.

Argo, OSS could be an abbreviation for Office of Strategic Services...
...or its could be an abbreviation for other stupid stuff, as Ed has observed.
OSS is also an abbreviation for Open Source Software and Operational Support System, among other things.
In this case, OSS is a guy who is a member here.
Why do you feel entitled to take Ed to task for his attempt at humor, which I thought was much funnier than yours? It certainly does not appear that Ed was mocking any branch of military intelligence or special services. Don't you think it's time to quit playing Army? This PM Notice has nothing to do with any sub-branch of the military, and we all know you would be livid is someone posted off-topic stuff in your Reilly tome.
A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

I always felt very fortunate to have worked for the CIA long enough ago to have had former OSS officers as instructors. Several of them became Directors of Central Intelligence, starting with Allen Dulles under Eisenhower, followed by Richard Helms and William Colby during the Vietnam years. The last OSS alum to head the Agency was William Casey, appointed by President Reagan.
