I have a question for the Damascus barrel experts. In the above photo, what type of twist do we see? Also, it looks like there is a pattern change about halfway down the right tube. Are we looking at a splice or something else?

Interesting gun, a First Patent thumb lever reportedly from 1869.

We need much better images to be helpful.

Pattern welded barrels were fabricated in 2-3 butt welded tube segments; thicker at the breech. Segment mis-matching is not uncommon

It looks like 4-iron crolle Damascus but I'm sure Drew has the actual name of the pattern.

Can't answer your question but I do like your gun.

Absent better images, I agree with Dean that is a spectacular 4 Iron Turkish Star pattern.
Not the best pic, but something like this

Dr. Gaddy's example segment. Note the straight ribband edge welds and rod 'zipper' welds (thank you Steve Culver for 'splainin' that smile )

Parker refinished by Brad Bachelder

It is unlikely that such a sophisticated pattern was originally on a c. 1860s British gun, so it may well have been rebarreled and finished in "black & white" (also atypical) at a later date. The proof marks should be interesting.

Gun looks lovely. Obviously has been refinished. If you are
thinking of buying it do take it to a gunsmith who really
knows his way around these old guns. He will be able to

advise you. Well worth his fee which is not normally high.
In Britain, where I come from, there is a great deal of
interest in shooting these old guns. Black powder cartridges
can be purchased without too much of a problem.

Thanks for the post.
