I recently acquired a Greifelt 12 ga. over under that is a V,L,& D import, mfg 6/1924, and it seems to be a #1 grade, but has a one piece forend instead of the 3-piece Merkel forend I have seen on other Greifelts. Anybody know much about this co. and its product line? Thanks, Marcus

Greifelt was a quality German producer. They made some high quality weapons.

I do not believe they survived World War II

You may want to reask this question under German & Austrian Sporting Guns @ doublegunshop.com

A trip to the German Gun Collector Association might provide a good amount of data. http://www.germanguns.com/upload/forum.php

I think V,L & D is one of the companies whose records now reside with Griffin & Howe. If so they have a research service that might give you a lot of insight into the history of your Greifelt...Geo

Marcus,

Congratulations on your Greifelt. Greifelt is one of my favorite German O/U and are of great quality. As mentioned above, if you want to get more data on your gun, you can reach out to G&H and see if Bob Beach has data on your particular gun.

Go to this link for more data on the Greifelt company.

Here is a 20 and 12 gauge grade 1 from the same era from VL&D.

Thanks for the reply. My gun looks similar to your 20 ga.,as far as the bolsters go,but has one piece forend wood and no game scene. But it can't be the grade 2 with the wood quality and rose & scroll,I don't think.I have reached out to Mr. Beach. Thanks, Sandlapper

Hi Sandlapper, here is a better pic of the 20. It is just as it came from VLD witb the exception of new main springs I had installed. In 1931 it was sold by Abercrombieand Fitch for $435. It is the only one i have encountered with the oakleaf engraving.

I have attached a page of an A&F catalog that me help you.

Post a pic of your Greifelt if you can.

Thanks very much for the catalog info and pics;my 1926 VL&D catalog is not quite as in depth as yours is.I'm incined to think they may have made a few changes in features between 1924 and late 1920's. Maybe that would explain my gun. Possibly it was special ordered. Maybe Mr. Beach can clarify all of this. Regards, Marcus
