And a double rifle as well. I think a better double gun snob than me could ID it.

It is a very odd photo. The boots and wool socks don't fit with alligator hunting. Nor were gators likely to be huntable back whenever this was. I wonder when the become off limits back then?

It could be a crocodile however. I'd sort of gamble that it is, and he went on safari, though again, the attire seems a might heavy for crocs.

Obviously, it is a staged shot, as the hide is tanned or at least dried, but a strange combination of stuff. The vegetation in the background looks about right for Winona.

It gets better and better! Rhino with a .30-30 by a 10-yr old?

The rifle he is holding sure doesn't look like a 30-30.

That must have been, by far, the richest family in Winona. 75 porters, official photographer, motion picture camera man, taxidermist, in 1924 or 25. Quite the trip.

I guess the 10 yr old "hero" turned into a bit of a nutcase.

I would wonder where Senior got his bucks? Winona? Of all places...

"EL King" married Grace Watkins, the only child of J.R. Watkins, whose company is still in business, though no longer in the family.
JR Watkins

He also was involved with banking and one of his former banks had
some of the preserved animals from the safari and some of his gun collecion.

Winona National Bank

Isn't google wonderful?

Has anyone here visited this bank, I'd like to hear if it is
worth a side trip. I have an aunt that lives in central Wisconsin and pass through LaCrosse sometimes when I go to visit and might be able to swing through Winona on the way home.

i have not been to it, but it might be worth a detour.

Have you ever been to the bank/gun shop in Duluth. I can't remember the owner's name but it is quite an interesting building with frescos on the vaulted ceiling and some wonderful guns. Sort of seedy and run down but somehow that fits even better.
