I'm sorry for you Bob! Sometimes they call back in a week when they can't sell it for what their new price is... offer him less than your original price. If you can stomach talking to him after this. Had this happen to me once and ended up with the gun 10% less than I was going to pay for it. Or a better one will surface!

I feel your pain. I have had a few deals go crappy. One can only hope that karma comes around to bite his backside, though faint hope on that. Only thing that you can control is your own honour. Best of luck next deal.

Just a few weeks ago, I attended a small gun show in Colorado. One of the sellers had two Model 95 Winchesters, in 30/40. I made him an offer for both of them. He turned it down, but did so in a very rude insulting manner. As I left he approached me and said he would accept my offer. It felt REALLY good to tell him No, that I didn't care to do business with him....

Good for you, LD. That DOES feel good, and sends a message, too.

Here is what pisses me off. When a guy calls on the phone and says ""whats your best price" I say I think the price is fair but make me an offer.
He makes an offer and I say I will take it and then he says '"well let me think about it"

JOhn Boyd Your choice to be in retail. You couldn't pay me to do that. But that's how customers behave...in gunshops and everywhere else.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

JOhn Boyd It helps to take only "hard offers". Don't do any negotiating until the customer gives you a credit card. If they refuse to give you a card number, that tells you right off the bat they are not serious to begin with, and are only wasting your time. If they give you a card, then make you an offer and you agree, at that instant they bought the gun and it is going on their card. If you begin to practice that rule, you will be amused at how many customer will be offended for having to give you a credit card. They are stunned that "they might actually have to buy the gun" if you accept their offer. One of the most important skills that many people need to learn when working retail, is that there are many customers that are just too expensive to do business with. I think we all know what that means, and it is best to weed them out as soon as possible.

That's it; weed out as many customers as possible. Maybe someone else will pay the help at the end of the week...Geo

Retailers, be glad you have customers and treat them with respect. Customers, be glad there are sellers catering to your specific needs and treat them honestly. There. It works both ways.

LOL! I had a Russian Motorcycle with Sidecar for sale..The price was 4500.00 OBO. That means, I am sure you all know, "Or best offer" People would make an offer, I would tell them to write it down, give me a 100.00 deposit and I would let them know by X date if theirs was the "Best offer"...They just didn't get it! How do you know if you have the best offer if you take the first offer? Some of them got pretty upset...I sold it for the asking price, eventually...Fun! And then when we were in the horse business.....
