For anyone with the time or inclination to watch the 1951 movie "His Kind of Woman" starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Russell, Raymond Burr and Vincent Price you'll get to see some fine early American Springfield sporters being tossed around and shooting bad guys. Not a particularly good movie (Jane Russell in an early role) but does get interesting when the firearms come out. Maybe G & H's??? For sure though, they are fine rifles with Lyman 48 sights, side mounts etc. I wonder where the rifles went?

In that almost .375 H&H Caliber, I'll bet that sweet Mauser BA knocked her right on her cute little butt every time she touched off a round. A 7x57 would have been way easier, recoil and accuracy wise, on her little rounded shoulder. For me, I'll take a .416 Rigby, please.

Anotheer movie located in Africa where the protaglnists are both using Springfields is "The Macomber Affair", with Gregory Peck and Robert Preston as PH and client. Both blaze away at running buffalo, and typically take the rifle down from their shoulder after each shot to work the action.
If you look carefully, the hunting car has a sign on the side with the fictional PH's name and "Box 1822, Nairobi". That was the address of Ker & Downy (later Ker, Downey & Selby) Safaris, who provided the support for the film crew. It was Ker & Downey's first of many such projects.

Mike I read her book recently. It was a Christmas present from a friend. That girl must have had ice water in her veins. Her husband had to have the same cool to continue filming in some of the scrapes they got into. An outstanding read and one I'd recommend to any adventure lover.
