I have two Turkish doubles, both .410" side by sides. One is a very low priced Yildiz Elegante 4, extractor gun, with 28" barrels and single trigger. I reworked the trigger myself to lighten it to about 3 1/2 - 4 lbs., and it has been a perfect little gun for several years. Killed lots of doves and quail. Very lightweight little gun with great MOI. Single trigger has never once caused a problem. Polished internals.

The other is a new Dickinson .410 with 30" barrels, double triggers and ejectors. Wonderful gun, with which I can find no mechanical faults after a season of use. I absolutely love the gun. Very high quality, beautifully struck and blued barrels, and pretty wood and checkering. Very strong ejectors, and really good trigger pulls.

What Huglu/CZmodels are you talking about with aluminum receiver?

Stan: I fear that I have a bias towards British guns. Of the few Dickensons that I have handled, however, I liked the .410 the best.

Gil: That was an exceptionally thorough review, thank you for pointing it out. Question for you: If you could have gotten your 28 with 28-inch tubes, would you have?

Lloyd, I may have opted for 28 if available, but I got such a good deal NIB, I snapped it up without regard to barrel length. Because of the scaled sized frame, 26" doesn't look ungraceful as it may to some on a large bore. Gil

I understand that, Lloyd. With me it was not so much that I was attracted to Turkish guns as it was that I wanted a good .410 ejector S x S without taking out a mortgage on my farm to get it. The Yildiz, with extractors, got me by until I found the Dickinson. It fills the bill, and is the first Turkish double gun I have come across with acceptable triggers. I still shoot the Yildiz, tho', on quail. Good luck on your search.

That's what I call a thorough review, Wild Skies. Thanks.

I first became acquainted with the CZ guns when hunting quail with Charlie Rose down in Texas a decade or so ago. CZ had given Charlie a bunch of guns for his guiding clients to use. He was shooting a 28ga Bobwhite and absolutely loved it. No issues whatsoever. Shot a bunch of their guns at an event they put on in the Kansas City area. The 28ga was definitely my favorite. They eventually sent me a 16 to try out. Shot it well, except one of the triggers had a godawful pull. Triggers, I think, have been the main complaint with Turkish guns. And it looks as if they're getting better in that department.

Funny story: I was down there late in the season one year. Since I had to drive right through KC on my way home, Charlie asked me if I'd take the CZ guns back to them. I said sure, ran a MapQuest to locate them. Got to KC, followed MapQuest--and ended up in the parking lot of a Montessori school with about a dozen guns. Call to CZ got me out of the parking lot before someone spotted a doublegun terrorist. smile

Last question for the resident experts. What, if any, are the differences between the previous DeHaan marketed guns and the more-recent versions that CZ is putting out?

I cannot remember, i only handled the thing briefly and had very little interest in it. The turkish guns don't have much of a following or reputation here, rough shooters use baikals as they are built like a tank and are cheap and plentiful. In addition the last time i perused the shotgun shelf in the local dealers, i could buy an english sxs boxlock for less or a used beretta 682 or browning 325 for the same money as a new turkish gun.

If it had an aluminum receiver it most have bee either a slide or a self loader. DeHaan usually had better to wood fitting, triggers little higher grade of wood, mechanically the same. I have a straight Huglu Model 201A in 28 ga. 30" barrels choked IC & F CC, side clips and sweet triggers. Some were imported some years back. My other Turk is a Cabalas Dickenson 16 ga. I really enjoy these 2 Turkish shotguns, not much experience with the Dickinson yet, waiting for spring.
