I collect aftermarket sights and gadgets made for the 1903 Springfield. Some are works of art while others need a few more trips through the machine shop.

Many of these sights/gadgets are from home shops and others were commercially made for the retail market.

In the way of example, this is one of my favorites sights - a safety sight. It has an elevation adjustment only. The finish is a beautiful brown. There are no makers' marks. This is a very, very well made sight.

I will post pictures of of these sights/gadgets if there is an interest in seeing this old stuff.

Gary,

I would like to see these types of things.

In looking at this sight, it appears to me that the safety function is bypassed. Is this true? If so, I find it interesting that a IMHO hunting sight would delete the safety. There is always the possibility that another system was used for that. It does appear well built and is definitely an "oddity".

Thaine,
The sight is the safety. When the sight is turned to the right the safety is engaged sight straight up ready to fire. Niffty uh

YES! I have a fascination for old sights as well.

Thank you,

Hi Gary,

I always love to see sights from your collection, please post more pictures. With the sight you've already shown, do you
have a picture of what it looks like when it is in the safe
position.

"Niffty uh"

Yep. I thought that was how it worked, then talked myself out of that idea when I looked at the support on the side. Guess I should listen to myself more often, but then no one else does. LOL.

Interesting sight and design. Thanks again and keep 'em coming.
