I just acquired a 20ga s/s Diamond it has Prussia on the water table the serial # also on the water table ,a crown over a U. Then on the barrel flats it has a number of proof marks crown over W. a crown over U. Something that looks like bird
Has a 20 with another 20 with a circle around it next to it also. 12/23. Nitro and 3RR
And serial # which is 10599. The gun has 28 in barrels. F/F. Gold cocking indicators ejectors. Game scene on bottom of receiver and dog with bird in its mouth on trigger guard. The rest is heavy scroll. It is case colored Can someone tell me anything about it. Thanks

Hello Dc1
Welcome on your first posting.

Pictures would be most helpful!

Your shotgun was made in December of 1923

http://www.shotguns.se/html/germany_1890-1945.html

Most likely a 65 mm chambered gun so use 2 1/2 inch ammo.

Welcome
Mike

You'll hear some Prussian Dalys referred to as Lindner Dalys. Yours comes from the post-Lindner period. Daly experts might chime in as to whether that makes any difference.

The two 20's: One is the gauge of the gun, as in the shells you shoot in it. The other indicates bore diameter. All 20ga guns don't necessarily have the more or less standard 20ga bore diameter of .615. I had a somewhat later German 20ga than yours from Sauer. Mine had a 19 in a circle, in addition to the 20. That meant it had the bore diameter of a 19ga, or about .625 if I recall correctly, even though a 20ga gun. If you run a bore and choke gauge in the barrels, knowing the factory bore diameter will tell you whether the barrels have seen much honing.

Just post the photobucket link & we'll extract them for you. I've most interested in the proof date & marks around it.

Kind Regards,
