I need some examples of ruffed grouse engravings to give AYA so they can custom engrave one on my #2 AYA. If you have one please message me or post it hear. Please no engraving with gold, I dont want to confuse them, and thats not something I want.

Thanks!

The Basques' are great at traditional English rose and scroll type stuff.
However, it was recommended to me by MM to avoid game scenes as there is a good chance that you'll end up with the bird looking more like a Jurassic duck.

Can anyone else coroborate what Vernal said? I would think a simplistic rendition of a grouse wouldn't be too hard, and Ive seen some woodcock engraved aya's that were stunning!

The quality just depends on the individual engraver,,simple as that. Give them a picture of what you want. Some are simply better at it than others.
The old notion that the engraver was unfamiliar w/the species and therefore the engraved rendition is awkward just doesn't make sense,,at least in these days of computers, internet and copiers.
