I was measuring the bores and chokes on the Remington 1894 discussed in this thread: http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=352270#Post352270

Remington AE Grade 1894 s/n: 110152

Here is the information I have gathered.

Right Bore: .731" Choke: .030"
Left Bore: .732" Choke: .030"

Pellet Counts on Lug:
Right: (3)26 Left: (3)38

Right Choke Taper: 4 3/4" Long
Left Choke Taper: 4 1/4" Long

Visually the chokes appear unaltered and the pellet counts would seem to support that.

Did Remington commonly choke a shotgun with identical chokes in each barrel or would that have been a special order?

I think in that era it was very simple to request what you wanted. I have seen Remington's 1894 with M M, M F, F M, IC F and IC F all which matched the assumed pellet stamping.

I had a 1900 which is or was setup for a left handed shooter and it is F and M. Triggers were bent for left handed shooter but front trigger fired the right barrel which had full choke. I figured it was setup to take informers or the open balled was to shoot cripples. Never figured for sure if it started out F F with regular triggers and just got triggers bent and one choke opened up. But if that was the case I would have expected the right choke to have been opened and the pellet stamping was more like F M not F F. The first number is implied so I understand.

I have the big brother to your gun, a 1905 10ga AED with 30" barrels. It has .789 bore in right barrel with .046 choke and .790 bore on the left with .045 choke. At 40 yards it patterned 1 1/8 #6 (my reloads) at 92.5 and 93.2%. It solid and all original. Rem 94's are great guns.
