I just returned from seeing a 12b Acciaio Poldi sidelock #52xx that was obviously well made, had plenty of rose and scroll, and had seen a fair amount of use. It had a Miller single trigger...

I've done a quick Google search but I am not coming up with anything of value. Anyone know of this maker and the level of quality?

Please fill me in...

After another search it appears that the gun may be a Vicenzio Bernadelli and Poldi is a Czech steel that was sourced to various European makers prior to WWII.

Now I feel compelled to try to see it again and look at proof marks...

Can't tell you much about your gun but I have a Czech gun circa 1920, a Lovena, with Poldi Anticorro/Antikorro barrels. It is a very well made gun with a lot of bells and whistles. I suspect these Poldi barrels were considered by the maker to be the equal of anything.

Poldi is famous because of the furnace that was used.

Beretta was an early user of them for barrels. Poldi produced various formulations over the years. There is a good discussion about that here:

Is that the same Poldi that made the barrels on the BRNO ZP 49?

Yes, it would be. Italy has very little in the way of iron deposits and virtually no coal production. They were always looking for sources regarding barrels.
