Anybody know which issue has 'Evolution of the Sterlingworth, part 1' ? I seem to have part two only, and naturally I'd like to read part one of the series. Thanks!

They were in consecutive issues; Part I is in the issue before the one you've got (not trying to be a smart a$$; I'm at work and don't have the issues here).

Ah... yes, you guys are right. First place I looked, and didn't see it on the contents page. After reading the posts I looked again and STILL didn't see it... for a while. Brain fart.

Thank-you gentlemen.

And, the corrections are in Volume Sixteen, Issue 2, page 120.

Well I read it. Having just bought one of these things, I wanted to learn more about the gun. I learned a few things about the gun, but much, much, more about advertised and selling prices from the 20's and 30's. I'm sure that's vital information to somebody... just not to me.

Is the McIntosh book more of the same trivia, or does he describe the gun a bit? Photos of the innards would be nice, and some tips on improving the godawful rear trigger.

I don't really care to know anything more about Ansley Fox. His shoe size, and who his tailor was isn't vital information.

I just recieved a note from Dan Cote the other day, the editor of the DGJ. He is coming out with The second READER AND INDEX hardback book, it should be out before Christmas. so things will be easier to find. great magazine, I have every issue.

You will learn a lot of trivia from Mac's book too; hopefully there's enough good info to make it worth your while. Been a while since I've been inside my copy, but as I recall there are drawings of the works but no photos, and no tips for improvement. How can you improve The Finest Gun in the World?

Parts pictures and cut-away pictures of the Fox action appear in all the catalogues, and there are several repros available from Cornell and others that are cheap.

I'm not a gunsmith. I'm a historical researcher. The last time I was inside a Fox was when my Super-Fox went to the bottom of American Lake in Colorado in 1970. If I have a gun problem it goes to a professional.

That said, I did try to provide one bit of info on the changes to the area where the tiptang joins the frame, but Cote' didn't use it. These pics are of guns from 1910 (wide radius), 1928 (small radius), and 1937 (nearly square).

Shotgunjones, I appreciate your viewpoint, but I've been shooting Sterlingworths for nearly fifty years and I haven't had to know any mechanical aspects. I would rather know Ansley's background than how to change a hammer that will never break. To be honest, yes, I would like to know about my guns mechanics, but I don't expect to find it in DGJ.
