Got a couple new flasks in. I have both powder flask books by Riling, and the first gives a value in 1953 money. The second book (1992) says multiply those prices by 10 (except Colt, etc American makers). But now I am wondering what the multiplier is for 21 years later. Anyone have an idea? Pete

I am not sure there is a multiplier. As anything, it depends on condition and current market values. I do have a number of flasks here and the old Riling book.

I have a large collection of them. I think the Internet has hurt prices a lot. What was once "scarce" is now often fairly common, thanks to the worldwide market opened up with this technology. Same goes for books, etc. Flasks I once thought would easily sell for over a hundred might make $50 on a good day. Oh well, they've been nice hanging on the wall for fifty years.....many of them exhibit great art from the period.

Yes, the art can be gorgeous. I raise Egyptian Arabian horses and keep the flasks adorned with Arabians. There were some beauties.

Your comment is really quite interesting and raises several issues. What I find particularly thought-provoking is the issue of supply-demand. Naively, I would have thought that perhaps prices would have increased (or stayed the same) for "Powder Flasks" or "Xs", since though supply (finding more Powder Flasks) would be greater (though there are only so many) that demand (through ebay/internet) would have increased even more (less capped??).
As a scientist, I live and die on internet interactions/data exchange etc, but I am quite "naive" with respect to these broader issues.
Might you expand a bit more--a really interesting comment/observation.
Thanks
Berrien

There are a lot of good reproduction ones being made in India and Italy. They are made for use and perfect for what they are intended for but I have seen some recently being sold as genuine antiques. Something to be aware of when buying on line. Lagopus.....
