If thats Arrietas new strategy to start catering to the high end, high society sector in direct completion with the likes of James Purdey, Thomas Boss and Holland & Holland, good luck with that.

They probably aren't trying to compete with Boss and the like, but there is a very viable and profitable mid-range that they are entering. I recently visited William Powell in Banbury and they are importing Arrietas in the white and finishing them to very high standards and they are selling briskly. They are not cheap, either.

And no, they are not competing with Boss and H&H!

Fox, Parker, Smith, Ithaca, Lefever and Remington all tried low grade guns to keep alive in making doubles. They all failed. High volume at low profit just does not work long term. It is like selling your eggs or hatched chicks when you are in the chicken business. The cash generated might keep you afloat for a while but in the end it kills your business.

They are just being realistic and have run the numbers. There is not enough volume or profit to make it just selling basic entry level guns. On top of that currency fluctuations have to be very dangerous for any long term planning. So they are betting that long term they can make more money selling fewer guns that have a bigger margin. Hope they are right.

You can still purchase 572 which is a solid gun. I do not think he said prices went up; only that two models will be discontinued.

The used market cannot provide you a gun of custom dimensions.

There are still lots of folks with money. Just because one fellow is now priced out of the market does no mean there are no buyers.

Ky Jon; what killed the American double was the American pumps and autos. Smith had their lowest Field grade back in the 1890s that remained basically unchanged and that was long before the competition of the pumps and autos.

As you read this I am putting a final order in for the models 557 & 570. As you know they are dropping these guns and the entry level point will be about $7000 base gun. I have some pre-orders already spoken for, but can still take some additional orders before they end the less expensive guns
Sincerely
