I need to add a wood extension of 1 1/2" to a Franchi Condor that I have recently purchased.
(1.) Have talked to Mark Larson Art in Tacoma, Washington, who does the painting of graining on the wood extension and them applies a sprayed on finish. He Has anyone had this work done and are you satisfied?

(2.)Also, can anyone recommend a stock man to do a traditional wood extension for this gun?

Thanks,
Paul

Mark can do the extension too if you wish. Dennis Smith in OR would be more than qualified to do the extension if you prefer a stockmaker to do the work.

Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Dennis Smith is your guy, no disrespect to Larson intended. I have seen extensions he installed where the joint was totally invisible, even after his showing me where it was. (541) 483-2182

I also think Dennis does great work. But with any wood extension, you can tell. You may not see the seam, but the grain differences will give it away everytime. You can get close to matching, but never perfect.

Mark is able to blend the grains and does great work also.

Either way, both men are excellent!

Best!

Greg

Mark Larson did my Lefever EE grade. The extension was done several years before by Bryan Burgin in NY who is unfortunately retired. The extension is as perfect now as it was 7 years ago when it was first done. Perfect and tight. A couple of years ago Mark did his magic on the wood grain. I am not sure God can tell his where his work ends and where Mark's work begins. I have been to SD to hunt pheasants with it and I hunt with it all of the time at the club here at home and it is still perfect. I'm sure there are others as good but I give my recommendation to Mark. You cant do better than perfect. He had picture of my Lefever on his website. It may still be there.

Does anyone know how the wood finish look on Larson's job? Does it look "sprayed on" ??????

Please comment on Larson's finish as compared to the traditional oil finish.

There is no comparison between an oil finish and the finishing process needed to hide the extension line that Mark and I do. The finish used is an "on the wood" type. It is a build up finish and there is no comparison.

The art of hiding extensions is an old process. There are many ways to make the glue line disappear. Most oil finish processes involve chemical darkening of the entire stock.

Mark and I both use the same technique but different finishing materials to hide the art work. Yes, it is art. Mark and I are not in competition, on this we both agree. He is well qualified and skilled to do the work requested. So am I.
