stock and fore end. Got a nice A5 that someone tried to remove the plastic like surface on a 66 Browning A5 stock. Looks like the wood took some water also as it is very discolored. The plastic like coating has surface cracks. Don't know rather to remove old finish completely or try to recover it. Would appreciate advice on either way. Thanks

That finish is hard to get off but it is worth the effort when you finally do. I have used every stripper known to man, Citrusstrip (sp?) was as good as any. There was another one, a paste stripper that worked ok. No matter what you use the technique is the same: paint it on with a paint brush. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Scrape very carefully with a dull putty knife. Clean with Scotchbrite soaked in acetone. Repeat probably 15-20 times. Just do it while you have something else you are working on; it's a grungy job but totally worth the effort.

If it is the same as the glossy poly finish on old 1100s, Dad's brand paint stripper will take it off. I have done it. It is called Dad's Easy Spray.
