Good day.
I am in need of assistance in a search that is probably impossible to get a result on, but........... if you dont ask you don't get.

I have a William Evans From Purdeys Box lock non ejector from 1895. It is marked #2 with a serial #of 2099
I am looking for the #1 Gun of this pair.....

I have spoken with Wm Evans in London, Gun was made in 1895 they told me but records were incomplete due to a visit from the Luftwaffe in the 1940's frown

The #2 Gun I have was my Grandfathers, I have used it all my life from age of 14.
I woul;d love to be able to find its mate.
Have registered with matchedpairs.com for 25 yrs and so far no luck.

Can anyone help I wonder????

Would be a real thrill to find it.

Hi James

I found the No 2 to a Beesley No 1 by trawling through the internet via Google and looking at all records of Beesley sidelocks.

In your case you could try searching "william evans" boxlock and see what emerges. Of course there is no guarantee that gun 2098 is the No 1 gun to yours. Often a gun was built to match a gun already well loved. Unless of course Wm Evans have already been able to confirm the No 1 serial number.

Best of luck.

Tim

Tim has a good point here, you need to establish first if the No. 1 you are looking for is 2098 or some other lower number.

Matchedpairs is ok, but I have registered a few guns with Joe (great guy and no disrespect to his business) but eventually found them myself through heavy use of google.

Cheers

A gun was found for me by a friend on google by googling the make of the gun and the serial number. This was after 20 years of searching, google and pre google. Be sure to put spaces on both sides of any word or number you are searching for.

Have you tried vintage guns ? Mr. Haddoke is on this forum and I believe the firm offers a gun search service.
Just a thought, as the more people involved looking into it could narrow it down.
