I recently purchased a Springfield side by side (no model designation)nothing more than a shooter. I like the gun however the action profile lines (especially around top lever and where it marries to the stock) have to be the most unappealing I've ever seen, so i was thinking of reshaping the action. The stock has a proud fit around the upper tang and slightly below the lower tang. I'm not envisioning a silks purse from a sows ear, just a project to keep my hands busy. Thanks for thoughts or ideas.

Sell the sows ear and at least start off with a gun that once was a silk purse.

I agree the profile is not real appealing, but those old Stevens are good solid shooters; should serve you well. If you want to pretty it up, it's your gun; do what you like. Might be good practice in case you want to work on a higher grade gun at some point.
