Guys I'm looking for a couple of English Pointers, perhaps a setter.
Any recomendations of anyone that won't make my wife go to the lawyer because I bought a new dog?

Your savvy advise will be greatly apreciated.

Regards,

Enrique.

Take a look at here:

Obviously, you need to take a good look at the pedigrees and talk alot with the breeder.

What type of birds do you plan to hunt and where? Are you riding horseback, 4-wheeler, walking? Are you training them yourself or having it done? The reason I ask is the variables are more than two. I like Brittany's and Shorthairs for my type of hunting. If I lived in Texas I would probably use shorthairs more than Brittany's. BTW, I just picked up a new dog today...a Brit that was with American Brittany Rescue and worthy of better.

Good luck and good hunting. I will gladly answer what I can here or you can PM me.

I've got two German Shorthairs that are great dogs.

One thing to keep in mind with any hunting breed is lots of backyard space or time to walk them.

They have a lot of energy and need a chance to displace it or they will drive you and your better half crazy.

Once you hunt with your own dog though, there is nothing better.

I agree with ss, I have always liked english pointers over every other bird dog, but they have alot of energy and need to be worked (I make it like play by throwing a bird dummy) they love people, but would rather be in the field over anything, but do make sure you get a good blood line!

I have two English Setters and couldn't be more pleased. One works out and one in close. They are also pets. I know some people don't agree with that, but my wife spoils these two and they are still great at finding birds and very steady in the field. We had ours sent in from Idaho. We were so pleased with the first one, we went right back to the breeder for the second. If you're interested, PM and I'll send your pictures and the kennel info. George

If you have a wife that would consider a new dog reason to speak with a lawyer, you have a problem, and it is not what kind of dog to get. You need to resolve what she wants/accepts/will put up with FIRST, before you drag something home. That is how dogs end up in the rescue shelter in the first place.
Best,
Ted
