Update: Moving forward on the hand tool project, I'm working with one of the finest toolmakers in the business for the production of the cutters. Like all good things, it will take a little more time. We are working to produce the fixtures needed for grinding the carbide cutters. Attention to detail is paramount as we both want to produce a good quality product. Once again, if you are interested in these tools please shoot me an email and let me know what length/degree of cutters you would be most interested in. It is looking like things may start rolling around the end of this year.
Best, Dan

I use i J&R electric tool and have used it extensively on wood and metal.. It works great with little problems.. I would like a .040 thick cutter at 60 or 75 degrees for finer line metal checkering..as well as replacement carbide cutters for my hand helds. Not as enerjetic as I was but things do wear out! I would contact Brownells and Midway to get the max market exposure. Brownells used to handle J&R but no longer. The rotary tools provide the best in straight line checkering with a lessor chance of 'following' the grain..good luck!!

As some of you may already know, Jon Hosford is marketing an NSK checkering machine and heads. We discussed hand tools today and Jon will be exclusively marketing those in a couple of months. Jon makes wonderful products and we all have reason to be excited about this development!
Jon's number is 734-395-9818.
Kindest regards,
Dan

Gesswein.com The UHT Ushio Turbolap Filer looks interesting. The Yellow Tool has a 1.2mm stroke that I believe would be perfect for checkering. I have no idea how difficult it would be to adapt a checkering tool to fit the handpiece. These tools are only $435, so someone on this forum should buy one and try it and report the results.
