Hello, I am looking for some information, production data, approx. value etc. on what I think is a pretty cool old double with a very interesting locking system. I am including the link from the Parker forum for the pictures. Enjoy the pictures and thank you in advance for the information. Jared V.

Yes, a Scott patent. One can see the same patent on Holland and Holland guns. At that time, Scott built most of the Hollands. Easy to find this Scott patent if necessary, but it is not on the tip of my tongue. Actually, I have seen the same patent gun on another or two guns with other maker's names.

Back to the top as suggested:

There are a few screws that have been marred a bit. I don't believe the gun was apart though but being well over 100 years old, who knows. Still better than a restored or partially restored gun in my eyes. Beg to differ on not being a high grade. While perhaps not the highest grade engraving offered, The pattern is similar to a DH Parker or at least along those lines. Description and pictures added to the auction. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=271080231
Also had it for discussion on the Parker Forum a while back. For those of you who are registered there, here is what they had to say about the shotgun.

I can assure you your gun is not a high grade Scott

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=271080231

....the low quality of wood and the lack of engraving attests to that.

What does seem odd is the Premier grade forearm latch on a lower graded gun. As far as the full strapped pistol grip goes that's not that unusual.

I see where Kensal Rise estimated it's value at $7000.00. crazy

As far as his estimation of value....I predict one of three things.

1...Hopefully you will find a true W&C Scott collector that thinks he can't live without the gun and pay you an astronomical price for it.

2...You are prepared to sit on the gun for an extended period of time waiting on the above.

Or #3....You will come to the reality that Kensal could be as much as $5800.00 too high.

If possible, I would appreciate a link or reference to another shotgun just like it. I have been able to find one other quintuple bolt with no pictures shown, that sold at auction a while ago and it happened to be the consecutive number to this gun. ( makes me think it might have been a small run.) I take no offense to your appraisal, but I have sold lower condition 16 guage Utica Strerlingworths for more than $1200 in the past. Pretty sure this nearly unique original Scott commands a bit more than that. As I mostly collect American side by sides, and this gun came with a small collection of Fox and Parker guns, I am still trying learn British doubles. Thank you for your opinion though. It is certainly not a gun you can "Blue Book".

Last I checked there was more fools with $1200 in their pockets than with $7000.

Built in 1875 or 76.....The lock plates appear in the pictures to have been polished or cleaned up, visibly buggered screws and 'patchy' bores as you claim.

Unless you measured the barrel length wrong I'd suspect they been chopped also...that weight of gun I'd expect to see 32" or better barrels.

I do find it remarkable how people can photo anylyze an obscure gun in both design and grade, in a short period of time and come to a conclusion on its condition & scarcity especially with average quality pictures... Guess I'll throw this old Scott in the parts bin.
