A few months back I posted a note about a Snyder inspired trapdoor. Below are a few pictures of the rifle still needing sights, finish and checkering.
The two last pictures of the lock "off" side show a hinged lock bolt. I saw first saw a screw like this on a British percussion match rifle years ago.
The trigger guard has a rolled right edge, originally a friend in England sent it to me as it was made for a straight grip double 20.

Again, many thanks for posting! I'm in the throes of accumulating the piece-parts for a similar trapdoor conversion and this is SUPER inspiration!

Very classy.
Does the lock bolt head have a detent spring, or does it flop around?

That's just great.

What was the source for the hammer? Did you re-purpose an existing hammer or did you carve that out?

Super work. What goes on it for sights I wonder?

Thanks all for your kind words.
Steven, The lock bolt tab just flops as it is now. The original rifle had a sort of surround similar to what one sees on a Greener safety which contained the retainer detent/spring. Not sure if I will take the time now to make something similar.
Ryan, The hammer was made from a piece of 1018 bar stock. Sights...I think I have a few old express sights and will clean one of those up.
Here is a pic of the lock inside. Still some clean-up here and there as you can see

Nice lock, & great job on ther hammer.
577-450?

I'm carving a jig for holding S&W grips out of a chunk of 3/8" x 1 1/2" bar stock, with a hacksaw. Frequent breaks....

That's beautiful - nice straight mainspring at full cock. I'm thinking you fabricated the whole lock? That's an incredible amount or work.

I'm not able to understand what's going on with your tumbler - I'd love to see it with the bridle off.

So you're not thinking of a tang sight? Is this supposed to evoke a trapdoor perhaps built up in England?
