The McKay Brown book is a really good read (i have read it about 3 times now) and unlike perhaps the Purdey, Boss and Holland books really sheds some light on the process and materials to make his guns.

The British Shotgun, Volume 3 is available for immediate delivery from Safari Press. I received my copy a week ago and have been enjoying it immensely. It is very well written and has a number of color photos, and quite a bit of early ads, etc., to liven it up. Sections include the Over/Under, machine built single shots, the single trigger, further development of the double, and a lot of other subjects. I recommend it to all. Much easier reading than the first two volumes.

I got my copy of the McKB book a little while ago and I think that it's probably Dallas' best. Because of the limited timeframe and subject (and the fact that most of the folks described are still alive), he's able to go into more detail and capture the feel of the people and the guns. I am a fan of both and reading the book is like reliving many happy days. Thoroughly recommended to anyone interested in them, absolutely necessary to anyone owning or lusting after one of the guns.
