The #4 would be the frame size if that is what it is. A 4 on the barrel flat would indicate 4 pound barrels, about right for an eight pound gun. If you would post the exact serial number, we could possibly give you more information.

Yeah I'd agree with, I've got a Parker / Remington magnum 10 gauge on a #3 frame and it's heavier than that.

A gun in the 106000 range would be a 1901 vintage gun. The VH-grade was introduced in 12-gauge only just a few years earlier and by then was offered in 12-, 16-, 20- and 28-gauges. I don't find the VH-/VHE-Grade offered in 10-gauge until the Remington years, and then at an extra charge. The circa 1913 "Flying Ducks" catalogue, under the VH-/VHE-Grade listing, even includes the line "Not supplied in 10-gauge."

A #2 frame 10 gauge V grade would still be a pretty rare bird if that's what you've actually got.

We still haven't been told the rib marking or absense therof. It is very likely that it is a ten gauge unless it was rebarrelled fairly late in Parker or Remington history. Don, what leads you to believe it is a ten gauge? Did you put a ten gauge shell into the chamber? That is a fairly good test.

The rib says Vulcan Steel and a 12guage shell is too loose
and there is no evidence that the gun ever had a safety

Don,

If you would provide the serial number to eightbore, Researcher, Market Hunter or me via PRIVATE MESSAGE we would check it against the Parker Gun Identification and Serialization book, i.e. "The Book". The Book lists Parkers by serial number and their original configuration.

A 10 guage Parker V grade of that era would be very interesting to Parker collectors. The mystery is killing us!!!

Mark
