I've never seen or been involved in a live pigeon shoot - but this has always intrigued me. I've done multiple google searches online but never can really find any of these advertised - much less in North Carolina. Obviously I understand these are somewhat contentious events and thus are done in private (I'm a cattle veterinarian so certainly understand issues about the PETA crowd). But how does a guy genuinely interested in giving this a try find a place to go. I've asked around locally but haven't discovered anything thus far. Any advice?

google search some of the recent news stories from PA on pigeon shoots. Call the club in the article. PA is far from NC, but they may point you in the right direction. Also, you could go to some of the "anti" web sites (I know HSUS has a page on pigeon shoots). They may actually have some information as to what clubs have pigeon shoots. Lastly, find a time machine. Befriend Hemingway back in the day.

I had to have an invation and then get past a cop at the gate. Ask around the trap field if anyone knows a box bird shooter and then interduce yourself and explane your desires. Get ready to blow 1000 or more at your first shoot. The big boys play this game. Thats why I only went once.

The last thing I would do is go to the internet looking for a shoot. Posting your phone number would be second. It's a invite only deal than show up at the door.

But of course dog fighting is illegal and in most states pigeon shooting is legal. But that was funny!

It's a game for an expert and is the superbowl of shotgun sports. You have to 'pay your dues' in pigeon shooting and can't learn the game over night. As boxbirder said it's an invitation only sort of deal. You would be best suited to start at the small shoots. Otherwise you are guaranteed of only 'donating'. Ask around your trap range. There are some shoots in North and South Carolina. Keep in mind pigeon shooting is a dying sport....partially due to expense and pressure. You better be an expert or have deep, deep pockets if you want to get involved!
