Don't think so. An FFL receiver renders unto Caesar; a "third-party FFL" acting in a consultancy capacity has nothing to do with law. Example: You want to buy a gun from a PI in Minneapollis. PI takes guns to local FFL and this worthy vetts condition and reports to you the prospective buyer. Precisely what BATF rule governing the shipping of firearms is satisfied by that arrangement? You can't use this FFL as your FFL receiver unless you live in Minnesota and it's not even likely you'd do so as a Minnesota resident depending upon your ditance from Minneapolis. I agree with jOE.

That's not reasonable. at all. Can you do that at a gun store? no, of course not.

You pay for it, you can take it for 3 days (unfired) and if there is something wrong with it that was not revealed, then you can return it. There's a reason private gun sales cost less than buying from a store and it's the risk factor.

BTW, I've never been burned by a long distance buying/selling.

I have heard that purchases paid for by postal money order and sent in the USPS have the advantage of postal inspectors investigating in cases of fraud. I have no personal experience.

Hi
I have bought from a handful of private individuals mostly those from this site. I have generally had good results. I did have one person from this site Todd Allen send me a gun that was not as described, asked for a money return and he told me times were tough and he already spent the money. We then came to an agreement for a $300 refund 1/2 of the costs of repair and I am still waiting for the money (its been a couple of years).

Cowboy, It is very reasonable. If the seller wants to make the sale, you, as the buyer must be accomodated.
I insist on this not only from private sellers but from all sellers where I can't lay my hands on the gun. And even then I want an inspection before money changes hand.
Why leave things to chance.

Only one FFL licensee is required, he being on the buyer's/receiver's end.

Sure it's reasonable FOR YOU.
but it's not reasonable for the seller.

Exactly what percentage of sellers tell you this is ok when you try and purchase? Adn what percentage tell you to go anatomically incorrect things and/or never answer back???

There are PLENTY of buyers.

the other options where you purchase it and ship it to a gunsmith, those are reasonable. The using a local FFL to ship from (which is a really good idea) is reasonable (after all, you're paying shipping costs anyway). But even if you buy new, once you sign the 4473, you own it, if it doesn't work the shop doesn't get involved.

Sorry, I've never had any issues buying or selling and I try to be meticulous when describing the guns I sell, but your option isn't reasonable.

JMHO

And for the people buying a 20 or 30 thousand dollar gun, well then a plane flight really isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

I will not prepay to a private individual. I have persons in the past describe guns to me and I have asked the right questions. when the gun came in I called the seller and asked where was the gun that he described as the one I received was not the one we spoke about.
