Not much use for Full is there?

I don't have much use in the field for anything more open than Mod (except for steel loads in my duck gun). I have a 20ga Uggie sidelock with 30" F/F barrels, and they are going to stay that way. Nothing better for doves in the desert on the last day of the season.

I'd go SK & IC; IC & Imp Mod.

I figure that a double should have one barrel bored kind of open and the other barrel bored kind of not open. So that is what I suggest for the one set that will be the do-it-all, use it on almost everything setup. Maybe IC/Mod or thereabouts. The other set I suggest to leave it as both full chokes; Elmer Keith liked this combination for his all-around guns and maybe we all can aspire to become as good a shot as he was. Besides it would be good for trap competition.

You may want to consider a wide spread between chokes, IF the gun has double triggers. I've often seen that more tightly choked barrel come in handy, don't recall that I ever regretted it. Skt/IM is a pretty good combination w/ the double triggers.

I can see why one would want a heavy gun for trap and sporting clays, but for skeet, wouldn't a roughly 7 lb gun be ideal? Quicker barrel movements for skeet would seem hindered with a heavy gun, and as long as the gun has a good pad, recoil shouldn't be an issue.

Be sure you maintain some real versatility between the two, with no overlap. If it were mine, I would go with .005(skeet) and .015(light mod.) in the first set, then .020(mod.) and .025(imp. mod.) in the other. You will use the first set at least 10x more than the second, maybe 20x.

Skeet's Gunshop in Tahlequah, OK has done numerous guns for me over the years and the work was always perfect, reasonable, and fast.

Gentlemen:

I know is not orthodox, but #1 barrels 0.005" right & 0.010" left (perfect upland combination) and #2 barrels instal thin wall interchangable chokes. If you are searching for versatility, you have EVERYTHING with this combination (besides I bet you will use #1 barrels 90% of the time).

Best,
