http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=57060421

Are they that rare?

If one opens a copy of "Gunlist" magazine, one will find ads from two guys named "Dick and Craig" that have low end .410s such as this, (and, other guns) for ungodly amounts of money. They buy a good percentage of the ads in that magazine every month and the prices are ALWAYS 30-150% more than similar items advertised in the same issue.

The guns are usually listed for months on end. But, a civilian off the street might actually believe that they are worth that much with a casual reading.
Best,
Ted

P.T. Barnum was right...a sucker born every minute. Sadly, there are those out there who have no compunction about taking the naive.

He must be at least somwhat wacky. Why list a gun on an auction site with a "buy now" price the same as the "minimum bid" price? Looking at his history he has a fairly large number of negative ratings. JL

I guess like just about any other hobby this one attracts its share of loonies. There is a guy on one of the other auction sites who goes by the name of Sly who has had several IMO marginal at best overpriced doubles up for "auction" there for years the last time I looked.

This is really a great post and very helpful for a NewB like me to the Double-Gun world.

I've been looking for a decent little SxS and I've seen some of these auctions and really didn't know if the gun was worth this much or something was trying to "screw" a buyer.

I have so many questions about the different Fox, LC Smith and Ithaca guns that it's hard to decipher over what is real and what is a real ripoff.

I also wonder with the Uggies, Merkels, Grullas and AyAs come in related to prior mentioned.

Definitely a lot to learn.

I used to be involved in the antique photo business, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, etc. For me, it was just a way to earn a few dollars for my other photographic interests.

I got to be friends with one of the biggest dealers around. His prices were well beyond unreasonable. We are talking thousands of dollars for images that others would have sold for $100 or $200.

I asked him one time, why he did that. He responded, "Because eventually some one will pay my price. I am happy to make a few sales that net me large profits." The thing is, he had regular customers who would gladly pay his prices without question. Yet these same customers would haggle with other dealers over $5. Go figure.
