I have a Winchester 54 in .30-30. I also have a Stith mount and a couple of Lyman Alaskan scopes. I would like to put an Alaskan on the 54, thinking it would look very traditional, but my Stith mount is for a Model 70. It would work fine if the 54 had a bolt handle altered for a scope. The Alaskan has plenty of eye relief to be mounted ahead of the bolt handle. But the Stith mount (as is) will not let me mount the Alaskan in a forward position. A second bolt for the 54 is an option, but they are pretty rare. I am not willing to alter the original bolt. Can the Stith mount be modified? Does anyone have a Stith for a 54? Any other ideas?
