Bought a 1962 vintage Ferlach BBF ("vertical cape gun") on a German online auction a few months ago. Signed by Josef Hambrusch, 16g above 7x65R, with Hensoldt Diavari 1.5-6x36. Price was surprisingly low so I tought I just bought a well used, average combination gun by a well known Ferlach maker.
The gun came here yesterday. When I put it together (no scope), I was immediately stunned by its light weight. I have a few Ferlach combination guns and I'm pretty sure this is the lightest. The main reason was clear the moment I red on both barrels: BÖHLER SUPER BLITZ. This is, at least as far as I can remember, my first first-hand experience with this famous (and expensive) steel and I must say I'm impressed.
I weighted the gun and it turned out to be 2.790 kg (6 lbs 2 oz, if I made the conversion right). This is very light for a high power rifle cartridge but since the scope adds another half kilo it should be OK.
This is also my first Hambrusch and compared to my F. Sodias and Borovniks of same vintage it's at least as good by desigh and workmanship if not in fact better. So a positive surprise here too.
With kind regards,
Jani

I'm afraid I don't have any pictures at the moment, and my "official photographer" is away o the Adriatic.
Good to hear from you.

I didn't get out my conversion charts for exactitude, but from memory 1kg =2.205lbs so you are definitely within ½oz, plenty close enough for me.

this type of barrel steel is usually found on very fine quality guns. light weight is hardly surprising as the difference between G55 and Super Blitz in equal barrel length can be as large as half a pound. hambrusch is top of the line maker. one serious elephant hunter who was using bolt gun in beltless 450magnum of euro design chose this maker to produce .470 sxs for him.

I hope the photographer will be bad weather in the Adriatic Sea, and will be back soon smile

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase.

Thanks, Mario
Rok, the friendly photographer, took his family to Hvar I think, with a possible journey to Boka Kotorska. He might be back quite soon...
With kind regards,
Jani
