I am looking for a High Wall take down barrel wanted for a re-lining project. Bad bore is a plus would like a reasonably good exterior.
Cheers,
Laurie

Joel,
I have spoken to Jim as well as a few others with out luck.
Have also asked on the ASSRA site.
I have seen a few High Walls in the past with the barrels and iron gone and a varmit barrel fitted so the originals may be out there some place.
Cheers,
Laurie

Laurie, Frank Zika will ransom......er, that is, he'll SELL you a newly-made TD iron fitting but I don't know how an original bbl would work if adapted to it. Might be worth a phone call though.
Regards, Joe

JD,
I have helped in Franks shop a bit and his Iron is as good as the original. I needed one as I got an action with out the iron. Have two original barrels a #4 .22 short and a 32-40 factory pattern barrel that is new never blued much like the .22 Musket pattern barrels I have in the Campbell book. The major difference is the the 32-40 has several factory marks un-like the .22 patterns that have paper tags attached.
Frank has one musket take down barrel but he got stuck with it was re-chambered which the seller forgot to mention and then said too bad you can hate me forever but it is now yours. I am looking for a #3 or heaver barrel may have to make one but like the idea of having the factory markings.
Cheers,
Laurie

JD, just as an FYI, when FZ came out with his barrel irons, I did a review of them and tried one on a barrel that had been previously made up for my td high-wall to fit what was assumed to be an original iron. In that case, at least, the indexing was perfect, and since Winchester made their barrels on a thread mill to index alike, and since Frank did his irons on CNC after reverse engineering them to the specs he made off several originals, I think we can safely assume an original barrel will turn right up unless it has been altered. They are pricey all right, but in this case, at least, you can expect to get what you pay for... top quality. I had to wait longer than I had hoped for Frank to complete the project, but once done, it was as well done as all of his work, which I have found to be superb. Usual disclaimers, no financial connection, just a satisfied customer!

Regards,
Froggie

PS Laurie, wasn't Mike Hunter or one of the other restorers saying he had the barrel roll marks for the 'walls?? If you are doing a recreation, that should do OK, I would think. GF

A few years back I was astounded at a gun show to see a HiWall in 7x57R, so marked, with perfect Winchester lettering, nickel steel etc., the usual factory language, on the barrel. Looked through the bore which was new and the reamer marks across the lands were prominent, suspect it would foul like crazy. Then about a month ago one of the dealers at the Greenwich CT gun show had a C. Sharps 1885 in that calibre, no effort at fakery. Fancy wood, etc., good looking rifle but No. 3 weight barrel which is really too much for a deer rifle.
