I was doing a little picture taking today and thought this 5E was a good example of original 1936 color. Hope it looks like it does in real life.

Walt beautiful gun. The blue of the sky surrounding the inlay is striking. Who does a good job of replicating Ithaca case colors? I have a 1928 and a 1937 vintage NID's that really need some sprucing up.

I can't tell you how much I look forward to your posts. The guns you show are absolutely beautiful. Just perfect and balanced in appearance, never over done and garish. Thanks so much for the enjoyment!

TwiceBarrel, Unfortunatley nobody does a very good job at replicating the original Ithaca NID case colors. Classic Guns and Clark Gunsmithing come the closest. Turnbull's colors are much too dark. Unless the gun is a complete disaster its best to leave well enough alone.

Beautiful gun! I recently posted this question on another site: Do colors fade on an unmolested gun? Have any of us really seen a gun as it left the factory, or have we seen untouched guns decades later?

The late Dr. Oscar Gaddy did some tests of color case hardened samples left in bright sunlight and others left in total darkness and said no.

I have a 16 ga serial number 356012 Flues,, I think 1921, 28in barrels, seems to be F x IM, the stock and forarm seem smooth and don't feel the checkering but still see where it is. The receiver is very clean but has no case colors, looks like nickol silver or I should say clean/silver. Wondering 2 things, is it worth paying to redo? the wood and did this gun ever have case colors.

Remove the forend from many a silver-receiver gun and the iron will have brilliant case colors that have rarely been touched or seen sunlight over the decades. Are they exactly the same as the day they left the factory? Who can say....but what could be closer?
