I'm just starting my search for a high end Browning Superposed. Are they still being produced in the FN plant or am I behind the times? I noticed a couple dealers that have Custom Exhibition guns and even though they have false sideplates , they have caught my eye. Would someone school me on these guns. Are they in present producton and are they worth the price? Paul Driscoll

Just sideplates, not "false" sideplates.

Browning still produces Superposed guns in their custom shop in Belgium. Check the Browning website for a link to their custom shop for a starting point. Can't say whether they are worth the price assuming you are referring to investment value.

JMC, I'll check there first, thanks. I guess "worth the price" was the wrong question. That is a personal choice. I bought a 20ga. Famars Excalibur Round a couple years ago. I sold 6 guns to get it. But I feel great ever time I take it out and shoot it. I hope this purchase would give me the same confidence.

The newer ones I've seen were very nice. But I'm not sure I could get myself to pay that much for a gun I know has a vintage counterpart that is built as well in a similar grade for less money/higher grade for similar money.

Look for a high condition MIDAS grade, the 410 bore is mighty nifty. I would rather pay 10K or a little less and get a superbly made gun then spend twice that on a gun that you would not be able to get half of it's price if you sold it ten days later.

Or the waterfowl series, boy howdy............ those are beautiful guns!!

I second H&H on the Superposed 'Waterfowl' series. Saw/handled a collection of them at a DC area gunshow about a year ago and they were magnificent. I recall the asking price was just about $10K for a Black Duck 12 ga. I'm seeing these on seller sites for around $8K today.

A friend of mine has a "Black Duck". Browning gave him the gun when his Diana gun which had been in for service was stolen in the mail. The gun has the most magnificent piece of burl I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the wood has about 10 checks and voids which were filled with epoxy. Well done, but still easily spotted

I WILL own one of those guns someday.......outstanding.

Hammerback - look for a book entitled " Browning Sporting Arms of Distinction" by Matt Eastman. Should be able to find a copy of it.

You can attempt to find the book " The Browning Superposed "
By Ned Schwing. It will cost you though, that book has skyrocketed in price as of late.

These two books will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the superposed shotgun.

I well remember the Waterfowl Series (Black Duck, Mallard, & Pintail priced at $4500 or so just a few (5-6) years ago. They are now going for twice that.
