Over here in the UK we have very little (nothing actually) in the mainstream TV media that covers shootinga nd countryside sports.

Launched this year is a web-based programme on these matters, which is nice to see and it may be interesting for overseas enthusiasts.

Have a look at the link and see what you think.

Agreed, shooting is the second most popular participation sport here in the U.K. after fishing and yet it never gets a mention except when someone is gunned down in a robbery. There are quite a few Countryside programmes but shooting is never mentioned because of 'political correctness'. The B.B.C. (Blair Broadcasting Corporation) would be inundated with complaints from the far left and Veggies if they showed such a thing. Even the Olympic shooting events will not get a mention. Lagopus.....

With the above in mind; Do you expect ther'll ever be an attempt to take back control of your rights from the socialists?

I don't think it's as much left-right swinging Thatcher to Labour as a majority seeing the shooting sports and fox-hunting as more for the privileged, Jim; that, and perhaps a greater sensitivity for wild things than those of us here on the frontiers. Just guessing.

As a young Canadian reporter in the pubs of London, Devon and Somerset 50 years ago and many times since, I've always been able to incite conversation when I answered "Trapper from the North woods" when asked what I do. Trapper? Yes, foxes, beaver, otter and coyotes, mostly. What fun!

Interesting article in The Time Online about the "democratization" of the shooting sports over in the UK:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article6948086.ece

Of course, it's also an article about guns that cost $50,000.

It's hard to get my head around "democratization" and $60,000 guns; easier to see it as another manifestation of privilege. Purists are complaining ostensibly about lowering Purdey quality---at $60,000---when everyone knows that a Parker is a Parker whatever the gloss, as I suspect is a Purdey. It's all about class.
